Who is Biggsy?

My name is Mike Biggs (Official web site: www.mikebiggs.us) and I currently live in Dallas, Texas, with my nine-year-old son Chase.

For a dozen+ years, my career and “self-worth” was wrapped up in a successful tenure as a media and PR manager for athletes, primarily PGA Tour golfers. Clients/employers included the likes of Jack Nicklaus, Phil Mickelson and Justin Leonard; a handful of NFL players such as Shane Matthews and Steve Everitt; and some part-time work on behalf of groups involved in activities of current and former Dallas Stars’ players such as Mike Modano, Marty Turco, Brenden Morrow and Derian Hatcher.

Following a divorce and after three years managing my own sports PR firm, I felt called away from the glamour world of sports to write a book about my older and physically-challenged sister Kathy. The journey ended up serving as a transformation impacting all facets of my life. The self-published book, “Redemption by Summer,” (RBS) was a raw testimony of discovery and not written for mainstream or publisher appeal.  It was the first step.

RBS has evolved into a brand new book titled “Cottage 12 — Two Paths Toward One Heart; One Given…the Other Discovered” and Advance Reader Copies were released in early 2009.  The new book is 5,000 less words, but with 65% new content and IS written for mainstream and publisher appeal under the advice and direction of experienced publishing executives.

I signed a marketing/distribution deal in May 2008 with Heinlein Publishing Group founded by former senior executives at publishing houses such as Random House, Thomas Nelson, NavPress and others.  We are all trying to navigate the changing publishing landscape and move forward with how books and writings will “get out there” in the digital age.

Career-wise, the journey has led to various efforts at various times to follow along this new path, pay necessary bills and maintain time freedom and flexibility. It has led to the formation of Wasteland Creative which you can read about in a separate “page post” at the top of the blog.

If you’re on Facebook (make sure it is the one from my links) or Twitter, look me up and join the journey.
